Why sushi is healthy: sushi isn’t just a trendy dish you grab on a Friday night—it’s a powerhouse of nutrients wrapped in a perfect bite. Rooted in Japanese tradition, sushi has evolved into a global favorite, loved for its clean flavors and artistic presentation. But beyond the taste and aesthetics, sushi offers a surprising number of health benefits. Let’s dive into why sushi can be a smart (and delicious) addition to your diet.
Most sushi is made with fish like salmon, or tuna protein-rich choices that are lower in saturated fat compared to red meats also called reason of why sushi is healthy. Protein is essential for muscle repair, immune function, and overall energy. And if you’re vegetarian, options like tofu provide good alternatives.
Food is consisdered a healthy sushi because fatty fish like salmon and tuna are packed with omega-3 fatty acids—healthy fats that support brain health, reduce inflammation, and lower the risk of heart disease. Sushi gives you a tasty way to meet your omega-3 needs without relying on supplements.
Many sushi rolls are low in calories, especially those that focus on fresh fish, seaweed, and veggies rather than fried fillings or heavy sauces. If you’re watching your weight, rolls like sashimi, nigiri, or simple cucumber/avocado maki are flavorful yet light options.
Seaweed (Nori): Rich in iodine, which supports thyroid health.
Avocado: Full of heart-healthy monounsaturated fats and potassium.
Ginger: Aids digestion and has anti-inflammatory properties.
Wasabi: Natural antimicrobial and great for sinus relief.
Rice (in moderation): Provides energy through carbohydrates.
Sushi offers a well-rounded blend of protein, healthy fats, and essential nutrients in a deliciously artistic form. Whether you’re grabbing a quick lunch or enjoying a sushi night out, it’s nice to know your favorite dish is doing your body good too. As with anything, moderation is key—but when eaten mindfully, sushi can definitely be a healthy addition to your lifestyle.

Joan WhackIro Sushi Greenwich is my go to sushi place. I absolutely love their sushi, to me it's perfect and the price is really reasonable. Their sushi sets are a steal. That doesn't seem to have an impact on the quality however, as not once have I had an issue with my order. It's always perfect, fresh, great portions, tasty, and well presented. I'm a heathen though, their tempura crunchy rolls are my weakness. If you're looking to try sushi for the first time and a bit weary, I'd definitely recommend their crunchy rolls, and maki. If I could give Iro an 11, I would, but none the less 10/10. Will order from Iro for as long as I live here, this will hopefully be my go to sushi joint for a long time.Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. nick templarSimply the best sushi take out in Greenwich, worth popping into the shop to order personally..... they will look after you.Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. SaraAlways delicious food and great portions. Updating this for a recent order(Aug 2022). I've never had any issues from Iro and have been ordering from them for quite a while. The food we received was fresh and still had great portions.Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Kalina ChristevReally good value for money, I've been ordering from here through Just Eat for years. My favourites are the prawn katsu temaki, the salmon and avocado uramaki, and the unbeatable salmon poke bowl. I've never had anything bad from here, except not a fan of the crab sushi - it's a bit tasteless. Everything else is worth it. (Recommendation: all sushi is really good with kewpie mayo. For the poke bowl, you get a very generous amount of salmon, but almost no avocado so I add a cubed avocado of my own. Drizzle on kewpie mayo, dark soy sauce, mix, and perfection.)Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.
